PHP Backend & API Developer

I am a Web Developer, working primarily in PHP, although I also work in Perl and Python. My specialities lie in integration of services - I do good work tying things together through development and use of APIs. I have done a variety of projects which include large API development, single-sign-on systems, wireless network security platforms as well as straightforward backends for dynamic websites and mobile apps. I have been developing with PHP for over 10 years, and Perl for over 13 years. I have a degree in Computer Engineering and have been working in industry as a web developer for approximately 8 years. I also have experience doing DevOps work and working with VoIP systems, and have done projects in the past which have involved tying these elements of IT in with web development work.

The Misgendered Project is a website which allows members of the transgender community to anonymously contact organisations and businesses where they have experienced discrimination, without having to directly expose themselves to public embrassment. The website itself is a HTML5/jQuery frontend backed by a PHP application which compiles the data, and generates a letter. This letter is then sent via API to a service that prints and sends the letter to the relevant organisation. The project relies on donations from the community, and works with the Stripe API to accept donations and keep track of account balances for sending the letters. Retrieve Arms is a bespoke REST API that communicates with its own MySQL database, an LDAP directory and requests through to other APIs as needed, including the Sirportly, GoCardless, Stripe, WHMCS, vSphere and OnApp APIs. This API is used by another project I have worked on which authenticates users against one or more of these resources as part of an SSO system, as well as handling authentication for itself, either by username & password (+ 2FA if enabled) or by generated API key.

TransFlare is a project undertaken as part of Trans*Code, a hackday for the transgender community. The aim of this particular project is to create an mobile web application which allows members of the transgender community to seek one another out when they need some kind of help - whatever help that may be. The project is designed as a mobile web app, using HTML5+jQuery for the frontend, making AJAX calls to a PHP REST API backend. The backend will use various location APIs to work out who can respond and then channel messages between two users as needed. This project was unfortunately not fully completed during the hackday, but those of us in the group working on it intend to continue developing it into a completed application.

WiFrontier is a completely modular package to quickly deploy and manage subscription-based wireless internet access, encompassing access control, usage monitoring, billing and payment and firewalling with a mobile-device-friendly responsive end-user interface. Each aspect is modularised to allow for integration to any billing platform, firewall system or authentication backend. Iris is a PHP-based single-sign-on system backed by both an LDAP directory as well as the WHMCS API, both of which it accesses through a bespoke REST API developed as part of another project I did. It is designed to allow users with different levels of authorisations to access the resources they are supposed to, while only requiring them to login once, regardless of what resource they are attempting to access.
