Saying something as it is wouldn't work as it has shown in my line of work. If it does work, everyone would have a success rate of 100%. My work in asset management and formal education in communication allows me to be able to plan and consider how the message is received by its intended audiences. (look at all these jargon!) Simply put, what you say and what others hear is always different. Whether it is a sales pitch, an investment proposal or a business proposal. You can write it with the most beautifully phrased words and still lose the deal. The difference is, I would phrase it in a way to get the result you want.
