My name is John Coutts and my first language is English. I've spent most of my life in the UK, but I currently live in southwest Spain where I moved with my wife and teenage son in the spring of 2007, seeking a better life and better weather. I'm pleased to say we found both.

I've been writing for as long as I can remember and writing professionally online for 18 years, since 1996. I've had numerous articles and web copy pieces on just about every subject imaginable published on web sites all over the Internet. I've also written ebooks and press releases for a large number of clients over the years. I can also edit and proofread, as well as translate French, German, Italian and Spanish into English.

I’m a freelance journalist part of the time. I wrote a weekly column for a Scottish newspaper for just over 10 years between 1998 and 2008. For three years running during that time this newspaper was voted Scottish Newspaper of the Year. I like to think that my weekly column helped at least a little bit to make that possible.

I have co-authored three books, working in cooperation with the manager of a museum, which won the prestigious Scottish Museum Of The Year award in the Education Category in the year 2000. The museum cited two CD-ROM’s that I designed, authored and created for them as being "of pivotal importance" in their receiving the award.

Although I live in Spain, I still keep in close contact with work colleagues and clients in many countries worldwide, but especially in the UK and USA. I regularly visit both countries, and even was married in the USA in the beautiful Smoky Mountains of North Carolina in the summer of 2003.

Work Terms

I work online full-time, and I am therefore available throughout every work day, and usually at weekends too. I expect immediate payment for all work delivered on time and accepted, and with first time clients I may require a percentage of the payment up front. My preferred payment processor is PayPal.

I always try to be as flexible as possible in all work-related matters, so while I state my preferences, I am always willing to consider another way.
