Physics and Mathematics Tutor.

Hi, my name's Tommy. I'm a problem solver, an educator and a creator. I hold a first class MSci in Theoretical Physics. I have a deep love of science and appreciation for beauty of mathematics. I'm very interested in understanding how different people learn, and also what can be accomplished by using technology to create new and novel techniques to help educate. I'm a researcher in the field of emergent physics from dynamic discrete networks. I'm a visitor at the International Centre for unconventional computing. I am proficient in mathematica and C++, which I use for my research. I love games of all kinds, and so I have learnt to use C# to construct a game idea I have with Unity. I also invent abstract strategy board games, for example my newest game 'Beset', which has proven to be very popular. I am currently improving my skills in html, css, and javascript programming languages, with the goal of becoming proficient at web development and making websites for my games and research.

Experience

Private tutor for maths and physics

Tommy's Tutoring
Oct 2013 - Present
In this role I have tutored just over 80 students of varying ages from 5 years old up to university with great success. I have tutored Oxford entrance exams, university, KS2, KS3 GCSE and A level for both physics and maths. I have tutored face to face, and online through MathsDoctor, Evotuition, TutorHub, TutorHunt, GotoTraining and TutorBox. I am very interested in how technology can be implemented to create novel ways to teach maths and science, and inspire really students.

Comprehensive tutor of Early GCSE in mathematics

Fun Tech
Oct 2016 - Jun 2018 (1 year, 8 months)
In this role I provided comprehensive coverage of all material from the Edexcel GCSE in mathematics, online through gototraining, to an incredibly talented 8 year old student. This required three hours lessons each week, and weekly homework. I was required to mark and give feedback on the homework each week. I also needed to set and mark mock papers up until the test. I was also tasked with satisfying my students love of maths, teaching him things beyond the syllabus to inspire him.

Creator of mathematics teaching resources

Maths Doctor
Aug 2017 - Oct 2017 (2 months, 1 day)
In this role I was tasked with collating topic specific GCSE mathematics papers. This was all done remotely. The process involved taking a large collection of papers, categorising the questions into topics related to videos that explained the topics. This required digital organization skills as well as maths skills.

Education

M Sci

Queen Mary, U. of London, United Kingdom 2009 - 2013
(4 years)

Qualifications

Completion of Wolfram Science Summer School

Wolfram
2015
This certificate relates to the completion of the 3 week Wolfram science summer school in Boston in 2015. Here I worked on a research project under the supervision of Stephen Wolfram and various instructors from Wolfram. This research project led to me writing and publishing two papers on the topic, both written in Mathematica programming language.

Teaching English as a Foreign Language certificate

TEFL Academy
2008
This was a certificate that related to the completion of a 48 hour TEFL course at the Metropolitan University of London.

Publications

Non-local and light cone dynamics emergent from information propagating complete graph

Complex Systems
This paper describes a natural evolution of the system investigated in the 2017 JCA paper. The implementations enforce that all alterations to the network must propagate through the network dynamically, this resulted in light cone like restrictions on the expected velocities of particles/vertices once embedded in the coordinate space. Further physical comparisons are discussed at the end of this paper.

Emergence of massive equilibrium states from fully connected stochastic substitution systems

Journal of Cellular Automata, Old City Publishing
This paper examines emergent behaviour from simple programs, specifically complete networks that are spatially embedded in a coordinate space. The ability of the system to produce structures of various masses i discussed. The approach of this paper is to observe some physically comparable phenomena as emergent from the system, with the aim of describing the system and displaying results. This work developed on an investigative project completed in the last year of my MSci.
