About

A seasoned software developer with 30+ years of experience cutting code and eating donuts.

My origin story goes back to the 80’s where we find a geeky teen taking his first few steps into coding; writing 16-colour, turn-based video games on a TRS-80 CoCo2. Looking back it’s fun to laugh at the 64K of RAM that computer held, but it was a defining moment that planted the first seeds that would grow into a love of technology. Fast forward several decades that include endless hours programming, countless computers, the Computer Information Systems degree at the University College of the Fraser Valley, resulting in over 20 years of experience and love of software development.

During those years I have worked with several programming languages, with the majority of my time being spent in .Net (C#), Visual Basic for Applications, and Delphi. While the lion’s share of this development has been Windows application development, I have spent some quality time in HTML and CSS; most recently working with Microsoft’s ASP.Net Core 2. Like all good programmers, I continue to learn programming languages, frameworks and technologies to add to my virtual toolbox.

My toolbox is not just programming languages, I have experience working in both relational database (MSSQL), transactional databases (PSQL), and continue to expand my knowledge of multi-model databases (Azure Cosmos DB). In addition to working with these data repositories via code, I also have built an array of tools for working with the databases directly using various SQL / CSV / XLS techniques.
My skills do not end with just software development - I also possess a wide array of geeky technical skills including hardware, networking, and troubleshooting. Like most prototypical geeks I’m the person family and friends call when there are problems or questions with their computers, home networks, and home entertainment systems. Most recently I’ve started adding radio controlled planes, helicopters and multi-copters to the list of technological hobbies.

Now if only there were more donuts...
