Effect of various biochars on physical, mechanical, and microstructural characteristics of cement

Journal of Building Engineering
Using waste materials to replace a fraction of cement in concrete is economical. In this work, cement pastes and mortars were fabricated with five different kinds of unsaturated biochars such as bagasse biochar, coconut husk biochar, peanut husk biochar and wheat husk biochar etc at a dosage rate of 1-5 wt % relative to cement. The CO2 adsorption capacity of biochars was estimated to be in the range of 1.25–1.72 mmol/g. Characterizations include XRD, FTIR, SEM, and Raman spectroscopy analyses

A thermally-driven seawater desalination system: Proof of concept

Case Studies in Thermal Engineerinh
Seawater desalination plants have been powered by low-grade energy sources, drawn either with low-pressure bled-steam from steam turbines or the solar renewable energy harvested that are supplied at relatively low temperatures. Despite the increasing trend of seawater reverse osmosis plants, the role of thermal desalination methods and multi-effect distillation) in GCC countries is still relevant in the Arabian Gulf, arising from higher salinity, the frequent algae blooms of seawater ...........

Health Effects Associated with Fluoridated Water Sources—A Review of Central Asia

Asian Journal of Water, Environment and Pollution
Water fluoridation is a common practice in different parts of the world, mostly as a means of decontaminating water. It has been used in developed, as well as in developing countries. In recent years however, other countries have minimized, even eliminated its use due to health issues. In Central Asia, usage of fluoride is profoundly extant, thus occasioning the citizens’ exposure to various health risks. An excessive level of fluoride causes various health issues, mostly on dental and skeletal fluorosis wh

High Pressure Oxydesulphurisation of Coal—A Parametric Study

Energies
The current study is focused on controlling sulphur emissions by pre-treating coal to remove sulphur prior to combustion using the oxydesulphurisation technique. Three British coals were chosen for the study. Working with these coals gave a better insight to the oxydesulphurisation reactions for pyritic and organic sulphur. Effect of air and oxygen pressure in a fixed time interval on sulphur removal was studied by series of experimental runs at various temperatures. Heating value recoveries were significa

IMPACT OF EXCESSIVE NITROGEN FERTILIZERS ON THE ENVIRONMENT AND ASSOCIATED MITIGATION STRATEGIES

Asian Jr. of Microbiol. Biotech. Env.
The soaring rise in the anthropological production of nitrogen (N) fertilizers has been notable in the field of crop production. Despite several advantages the world is deriving from the use of reactive N, many environmental hazards including water and soil acidification, pollution of groundwater surface and other water mineral resources and accelerated ozone depletion have arisen as a result of the recurring use of excessive environmental N. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the impact of N in the
