About

The message is the key. Let it open doors. I am a communications professional with over eight years of experience. I am passionate about providing clean, clear copy.

My name is Chris Gagnon and I am a freelance writer. But that's not all I do. I am also a Big Brother, a son, an active guy, and a fan of professional wrestling. I've grappled with that last one for a few years since entering my 30's.

I have lived the last six years of my professional life in the non-profit arts community as the Strategic Partnerships and Development Officer at Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival. I have lent my hand as lead writer to a number of the festival's large-scale projects. Notably as the writer of the organization's previous two Strategic Plans. Additionally, I have produced over 50 successful grant applications to position the organization for growth year-after-year.

I cut my teeth with the Ontario government's Ministry of Northern Development and Mines' Communications Services Branch as a Junior Information Officer. This... valuable experience developed both my creative and corporate writing skills and voice. Within months of taking my seat at Cedar Street I was named editor of the Ministry's monthly newsletter, and placed on the external communications committee. I thrived in this deadline driven atmosphere--producing clean speeches and speaking notes for provincial and federal Canadian leaders, success stories and a plethora of new releases.

Where it all Began

When did I first fall in love with the craft? As a student who decided to register, the day before classes started, to Cambrian College's Print Journalism program. My first assignment? An "About Me" article. It's kind of like Deja-vu. From that day on I wouldn't be denied a career as a writer. I became the sports editor of the College newspaper, appeared as a monthly guest columnist with The Sudbury Star, and graduated with honours. None of these things were in my "Most Likely to Become" exercise in high school.
