Copy-editing, proofreading, transcription

I am a native English-speaking editor and proofreader, and a Professional Member of the CIEP (Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading, formerly the SfEP). I specialise in fiction and non-fiction texts across a wide range of subjects. I have an English degree from the University of Leeds and have spent over 20 years in the publishing business, working in-house and on a freelance basis on books, magazines, newspapers and academic texts. As a book editor, I am familiar with all stages of the editorial process. As part of an in-house editorial team, I have been responsible for evaluating manuscripts and making recommendations to commissioning editors, restructuring and reordering texts for sense and fluency, and proofreading for accuracy and consistency. As a newspaper sub-editor, I am used to rewriting and reordering copy from reporters and members of the public, often working under time pressure and always to tight press deadlines. On a freelance basis, I have proofread many texts for accuracy and consistency including coursework, essays, university applications and personal statements. On Upwork, I have edited fiction and non-fiction books, job applications, interview transcripts, and website and magazine articles. In addition to editorial work, I am an experienced transcriptionist and have worked on audios on a variety of subjects. I am happy transcribing simple interviews and more complex audios involving multiple speakers and accents. I am fast, efficient and accurate, and am comfortable working on both short and more complex projects. I will always ensure that every document I review is completed to a high professional standard.
