How to Improve the HOG Detector in the UAV Context

IFAC Workshop 2nd RED UAS

Fast and viewpoint robust human detection for SAR operations

Symposium on Safety, Security and Rescue Robotics (SSRR)
Fast and viewpoint robust human detection for SAR operations Abstract: There are many advantages in using UAVs for search and rescue operations. However, detecting people from a UAV remains a challenge: the embedded detector has to be fast enough and viewpoint robust to detect people in a flexible manner from aerial views.

Fast and viewpoint robust human detection in uncluttered environments

Visual Communications and Image Processing (VCIP), Valleta, Malta
Human detection is a very popular field of computer vision. Few works propose a solution for detecting people whatever the camera's viewpoint such as for UAV applications. In this context even state-of-the-art detectors can fail to detect people. We found that the Integral Channel Features detector (ICF) is inoperant in such a context. In this paper, we propose an approach to still benefit from the assets of the ICF while considerably extending the angular robustness during the detection.

Dynamic collaboration of far-infrared and visible spectrum for human detection

International Conference on Pattern Recognition (ICPR)
This paper is about the collaborative use of a far-infrared spectrum human detector and a visible spectrum human detector; the idea is to make collaborate these two detectorsof different nature to automatically adapt the human detection whatever the luminosity changes and whatever the infrared emission changes of the scene.

Collaborative training of far infrared and visible models for human detection

International Journal for Simulation and Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (IJSMDO)
This paper is about the collaborative training of a far infrared and a visible spectrum human detector; the idea is to use the strengths of one detector to fill the weaknesses of the other detector and vice versa. At first infrared and visible human detectors are pre-trained using initial training datasets. Then, the detectors are used to collect as many detections as possible. The validity of each detection is tested using a low-level criteria based on an objectness measure.
