Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Estimated project duration: Ongoing
We have an ongoing need to evaluate the current performance and future potential of new technologies in fields such as cybersecurity, robotic process automation, data science, computer networking, hybrid cloud, and other such areas.
Specific topics to be covered include: how does the technology work, what are the most popular use cases, what are the top companies in the field along with their key offerings, how do the offerings differ in terms of price/technology/etc, how do customers typically decide on which one to purchase, how big is the market, and what is the lifecycle in terms of customer renewals/expansions.
In sourcing data, the ideal candidate will be familiar with specialist technology industry research (eg Gartner, Forrester), startup databases (eg Crunchbase, Pitchbook, Dealroom), online review sites (eg G2 Crowd, Gartner Peer Insights), public filings (eg SEC 10k filings), news databases (eg Factiva), online analysis tools (eg SEMRush), and popular forums (eg Reddit, Quora, StackOverflow).
In assembling research, the ideal candidate will be able to read the company materials to understand the offering (eg company website, company presentations, company media interviews) and then supplement it with the context gained from the sourced data in order to answer the key questions posed above regarding how the technology works, who buys it, and other such questions.
Generally, each research request should be able to be drafted in 2 hours or less given we usually are only using it internally (i.e. to be used as talking points during meetings) and not externally (e.g. publishing a white paper). The purpose is to allow a suitably experienced technologist who may have a high level understanding of the area to quickly understand key areas on the specific topic and be able to therefore better participate in discussions which are held at short notice. The report format will generally be in bullet points following a standardized template.
