Description
Experience Level: Expert
Estimated project duration: Ongoing
Build a Software / Plug-in that can calculate Website / Email / Video Conferencing Carbon Emissions.
1) Each website produces carbon emissions indirectly through the consumption of electricity. For the website to load, several pings are required between data centers, routers and the final computer / mobile phone.
Task is to accurately calculate the carbon emission of each website
2) Each email sent requires electricity which contributes to carbon emissions.
Job is to build a software or plug-in that can be connected to regularly used email servers (Gmail, Yahoo, etc) and other email servers.
This software/plug-in show be able to dynamically assess the electricity cost, server usage, data center and related information regarding sending an email from an individual's current location and the associated information by the recipient. In doing so, be able to calculate the true carbon emission cost of an email. It should be able to dynamically calculate carbon emissions.
For example, if an individual sends an email from a country where renewable energy powers the data servers, the carbon emission cost will be less. But if the individual sends an email from a country where the data servers are powered by coal, the carbon emission would be more.
3) The software / plug-in should also be able to replicate this carbon emission calculation for video conferencing platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet etc. There should be a different set of calculations for video conferencing platforms, taking into account the data flow, resolution of the call, greater usage of audio etc.
