Description
Experience Level: Expert
Looking to work with a data strategist that also has a Web development background.
Project Scope: Timing equipment is used to track reaction time as part of the process with training athletes. The equipment consists of timing lights, running tracks and wrist bands. A laptop computer is connected to the equipment via USB. The training performance data is captured in a proprietary software (with a localized MYSQL database) running on the laptop computer and the data can be exported to a CSV file.
Each type of timing equipment records the performance data for an athlete but they are captured on different connected laptop computers. A single athlete's timing data can consists of 1 to 4 different CSV files manually exported from 1 to 4 different laptop computers. The 1 to 4 different CSV files also represent different types of training activity applicable to the specific type of timing equipment. Although all the captured data elements can be considered as time (in millisecond or seconds), the common data element across the different CSV files relates to an athlete. There will be multiple athletes with each having their own set of timing scores.
In general, we would like to create a defined process where a Certified Trainer can upload the 1 to 4 different CSV files. Each CSV file would be parsed so that each data point for an athlete can be consolidated enabling data visualization for performance data, bar graphs, pie charts, etc.
From our website, an athlete should be able to login to their own account, and view a dashboard of their performance summary (an example will be provided) applicable to each different training exercise or drill, search and retrieve previous year performance data and be able to have a side by side comparison where data visualization can also indicate if their performance had increased or decreased over multiple years. The summary reports that can also be formatted as a PDF download.
A Certified Trainer (who trains multiple athletes or a team) will have their own login with access privilege to have data visualization for all their athletes. The coach should also be able to compare performance data of different athletes side by side. Search filters can also include date range and performance scores for a specific type of training activity, data visualization for only male athletes or only female athletes, by type of sport and by age range.
For the company admin, functionality access would be similar to the Certified Trainer except the search filters encompass all the athletes on the system and the ability to edit the data (such as name, address, date of birth, etc.).
An additional login would be for schools who may have multiple Certified Trainers. As a result, there should be functionality for the system admin to assign Certified Trainers (including all their athletes) to a specific institution (school). Consequently, the institution would then be able to view data visualizations that encompasses all their assigned students and associated to the name of a Certified Trainer working under the institution.
Different types of business intelligence software such as Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, Google Data Studio, ZOHO Analytics, etc. can be considered as data platforms to leverage. Suggestions are welcomed. Although our Website is hosted on Wordpress, the login can direct users to another Cloud that can effectively host the data platform.
This project can turn into a longer term opportunity to provide continued support and future application enhancements and improvements.
