Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Estimated project duration: 1 day or less
Specific skills required:
PHP/MySQL and Joomla.
We have a bespoke Joomla component that is used to display training courses and take bookings.
The website is https://www.wedotraining.com/
UPLOADING COURSES TO THE WEBSITE
CURRENT METHOD:
• We use a course template (Course Master) to add new instances of a course running on the website. A Course Master has some pre-determined fields (Category, Course Type, Venue, Price etc). In order to display courses running in the future, we only need to add the Dates to that Course Master (Joomla Admin view - /administrator/index.php?option=com_wedo&view=coursemaster&layout=edit&id=4)
• We upload a CSV file with:
1 = Start Date, 2 = End Date, 3 (optional) = Dates and/or Extra Information.
• Adding these Dates will then display the courses running on the front end (EG –https://www.wedotraining.com/courses/construction/citb/smsts)
THE PROBLEM:
We work from a spreadsheet of hundreds of courses. There are many Categories, Course Types, Venues, Prices etc, so before we add the Dates, we must filter our spreadsheet to match the appropriate Course Master, then can only this small amount of dates via the CSV file. This process then needs repeating for all the different courses and associated Course Masters.
THE PROPOSED METHOD:
We would like to add a bulk of courses via one CSV file, without first filtering to match the Course Master.
We think in another view, we use a CSV upload function that requires the same information, but with the addition of the Course Master ID:
1 = Course Master Joomla ID, 2 = Start Date, 3 (optional) = Dates Extra Information, 4 = End Date
Or, maybe a full spreadsheet could be upoaded, but the system recognises the column headers and only adds that information (this would negate the need for us to removing unwanted columns before saving as a CSV file).
I hope that makes sense.
We have limited knowledge of Joomla component and database code, but believe uploading these files will add the information to the database tables successfully. If so, we feel this could be a simple solution. I have included a slight variation option on the attached document so please see the attachment.
You would need to ensure that the implementation of this method would not negatively affect the component in ways which we may not have thought of (we’re not techy!).
Or, if you think there is a better way of uploading schedules of courses to the system we'd be glad to hear it.
The attachment shows a short step-by-step workflow with screenshots. Please ensure you look at this before bidding.
Many Thanks
Andy
