After 16 years in TV this was my first experience with freelancer.com. I hired her at her hourly but learned from Freelancer that I should have created fixed prices for milestones. I recognize my learning curve with freelancer, as a first time user, may have created some initial confusion. After learning how it worked I created a milestone and budget, and clearly communicated that was the ENTIRE budget for completing the milestone. After working for only 4 hours (which at her hourly rate was the entire budget), she delivered a PARTIALLY completed edit with a check in about the budget. Certain editors that are notorious for holding projects hostage. They agree to edit projects for a fixed budget, but then refuse to complete the project as agreed unless they are paid more money. The majority of producers are then stuck as their project is now controlled by the editor and they’re forced to pay more $$. My fears were confirmed when I reviewed her profile and saw she completed LESS than 50% of projects on budget and on time. Fortunately, I had her work in PR teams so that she was not able to hold my project hostage. While it certainly wasted my time and was frustrating having to find yet another editor to complete the milestone, at least I didn't have to pay ransom for my project. While she seems to be a nice person and is an adequate editor, I would avoid working with her on an hourly basis and only work with her using milestones to avoid having your project held for ransom.
