RELIABILITY AND VALIDITY OF ACCELEROMETER-BASED SMARTPHONES TO ASSESS PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

IEEE
The article discusses the findings of a study which determined the validity of using smartphone accelerometers to monitor physical activity. The experiment noted the use of data gathering equipment including two iPod touch smartphones, and a Pedar in-shoe device to measure step counts during quiet standing, jumping in place, and walking. The study confirmed the high reliability and validity of smartphone accelerometers in quantifying physical activity compared to in-shoe insoles.

Vision Based Cooperation of Mobile Robots in Transportation Problem

IEEE
In this paper, we provide an analytical solution to the multi-agent transportation problem. In particular, we have analyzed the timing efficiency of two-agent and l-agent cooperation in the transportation problem. Our results indicate that proper synchronization is needed when the agents directly interact with one another. In the transportation problem, the coordination between the agents while transferring the block is most vital.

Fuzzy Logic Approach to Human Mood Detection

IEEE
The paper examines the scope of fuzzy relational models in human mood detection. Given a facial image, the paper attempts to segment facial regions into components of interest and then localizes the segmented components. Selected facial features such as eye-opening, mouth-opening and the length of eyebrow-constriction are next extracted from the localized regions.

Stability Analysis of the Ant System Dynamics with Non-uniform Pheromone Deposition Rules

IEEE
This paper extends the classical Ant Systems by considering non-uniform deposition by the ants while constructing pheromone trails. A deterministic solution to the ant system dynamics for both uniform and non-uniform pheromone deposition rules has been obtained to determine the parameters of the dynamics that ensure stability in pheromone trails.
