Risk factors of HIV/AIDS among Western Visayas residents from 1994-2011

This epidemiologic research paper aims to determine the association of socio-demographic factors, i.e. age, sex and occupation, to contracting HIV/AIDS infection among residents in Western Visayas, Philippines from 1994 to 2011. Analyses showed that 30-39 year olds were seven times, males four and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) 21 times more likely to contract infection.

Light Smoking as a Risk Behavior to Pregnant Women

The policy note aims to determine the confounding factors to smoking frequency as a risk behavior among women of reproductive age in the Philippines. It uses the results of the 2008 National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS). The key findings are as follows: 1) Pregnant women are more likely than non-pregnant not to smoke, 2) Light smoking persists among pregnant women at 1.67% points.
